Three Jailed In Delta State For Burglary In The Church

 Delta State Chief Magistrates’ Court sitting in Alihami, Agbor area, on Tuesday, sentenced three burglars who specialised in stealing church instruments to two years’ imprisonment.

Members of the vigilante group in Agbor, Ika South Local Government Area of the state, arrested the convicts on August 28, 2020, for stealing church musical equipment.
The convicts, Odafi Bright Favour, 28; Adaye Yusuf, 31; and Chibuzor Temple, 34, were arraigned on four counts bordering of conspiracy, felony, burglary and stealing.

Chief Magistrate Anene sentenced the burglars to two years’ imprisonment without an option of fine.
He said, The convicts conspired among themselves to commit offences punishable under Section 516 of the Criminal Code, Cap C21, Vol. 1, Laws of Delta State, 2006.
The judgment threw the vigilante group led by the Chairman, Mr Monday Kiyem, into wild jubilation as the members expressed the belief that justice had been served.

A representative of the St. John Anglican Cathedral, Agbor, which was among the burgled places of worship, Mr Patrick Egbonim, said the church was glad over the judgment, which he noted would serve as a deterrent to others.
