Kogi State Polytechnic Declares Three Days Lecture Free In Honour Of Staffs Who Were Affected By The Explosion

The Kogi State Polytechnic, on Thursday, declared three days lecture free in honour of staff and students of the school who were affected by the explosion.

The polytechnic’s Head, Public Relations and Protocol Unit, Uredo Omale, noted that the decision was reached at an emergency meeting of the institution.

A vital decision at the meeting was the setting up of a committee to do a careful and thorough identity check of members of staff and students affected by the inferno with a view to ascertaining the nature and level of damage done to them.

The committee, chaired by the Dean, School of Art, Design and Printing, Mr Pedro Peter Akande, immediately swung into action, and has so far reported that three members of staff sustained injuries in the incident, she added.

The Edo State Governor, Mr Godwin Obaseki, in a condolence message issued in Benin, said the explosion was an urgent reminder of the need to prioritise road and rail infrastructure development in the country.

The President of the Senate, Ahmad Lawan, in a statement by his media aide, Ola Awoniyi, also expressed grief over the accident.
It is sad and totally unacceptable that such tragedy keeps recurring on our roads despite ample road safety regulations and enforcement personnel.

We mourn those who have unfortunately lost their lives and pray for the speedy recovery of those who were injured,” he added.

Meanwhile, the Kogi State Governor, Yahaya Bello, on Thursday, visited the Presidential Villa, Abuja, over the explosion.

After a meeting with Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, Bello told State House correspondents that Osinbajo showed understanding and promised to support the state.
The governor said he had earlier met with the Minister of Works and Housing, Babatunde Fashola, over the incident, especially on the poor state of the road where the incident occurred.

He said Fashola ordered the immediate deployment of officials of the Federal Roads Maintenance Agency to fix the spot.

He added, The minister swiftly invited all those that were concerned as far as our road construction and reconstruction are concerned. He directed that FERMA moves into that spot immediately and fix those areas.
